The Bigfoot Trail is a 360-mile long-distance hiking route that traverses one of North America's most biologically rich and least-explored mountain landscapes. Beginning in the Yolla Bolly–Middle Eel Wilderness near the northern edge of the Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument, the trail winds through six wilderness areas and across the rugged Klamath Mountains before ending among the towering redwoods of Redwood National and State Parks.

Join Michael Kauffmann—naturalist, award-winning author, and Executive Director of the Bigfoot Trail Alliance—for an inspiring journey through the trail's remarkable landscapes, history, and future. Michael is the author of Conifer Country and co-author of California Trees: A Guide to the Native Species, recipient of the 2025 National Outdoor Book Award. Drawing on decades of exploring and studying the Klamath Mountains, he will share the story behind the creation of the Bigfoot Trail, the extraordinary biodiversity that makes this region a global ecological treasure, and the growing community of volunteers restoring and stewarding the route for future generations.

Whether you're an avid backpacker, a lover of wild places, or simply curious about one of California's hidden natural wonders, you'll learn how to experience the trail, hear stories from the backcountry, and discover how the Bigfoot Trail is becoming a model for community-powered conservation and long-distance trail stewardship.
