ACTION ALERT

Act Now to Save Our Public Lands from Private Sell-offs

Republicans on the House Natural Resources Committee voted to authorize the sale of hundreds of thousands of acres of public lands. Our public lands belong to all Americans, not wealthy developers or corporate interests.

The full House will vote on this package the week of
May 19th, and if it passes, it moves to the Senate. Each letter helps establish what we truly expect from our elected officials. This is how we ensure they represent our interests, not those of private developers and extractive industries.

Help stop our public lands from being sold to the highest bidder. By adding your name to the letter below, you will help keep public lands in public hands.

Text of letter:

I am writing to express my strong opposition to any proposal that would allow the sale of America's public lands to fund tax cuts or to reduce the deficit. As your constituent and someone who values access to our natural landscapes, wildlife, and clean water, I urge you to reject any such measures that may arise during the budget reconciliation process.

I understand the challenges of balancing the federal budget, but I believe strongly that sacrificing public lands is not an acceptable solution and there are far better alternatives for raising revenue. Public lands are not disposable assets to be liquidated for short-term financial gain. They are long-term investments in our national well-being that pay dividends in dozens of economic and social sectors. Outdoor recreation and tourism, public health, quality of life, and sustainable economic growth for local communities are just a few examples. Once transferred to state control and privatized, the American people lose these benefits forever.

I was deeply concerned to learn that Representatives Amodei (R-NV) and Maloy (R-UT) introduced a last-minute amendment to the House budget reconciliation package that mandates the sell-off of public lands in Nevada and Utah.

As your constituent, I ask you to oppose any attempts to sell public lands to pay for tax cuts and to urge Speaker Johnson to remove the amendment from the reconciliation bill.

Thank you for your consideration.
